ONSEN – Soaking in the Mystique of the Mountains
At KAI Unzen, outdoor baths open to a rocky landscape cloaked in rising clouds of steam. Beneath these shifting mists flows the source of the milky, sulfur-rich hot spring—an ancient gift from deep within the earth.
湯と記憶のあいだにたたずむ、雲仙のひととき
かつて「温泉」と書いて「うんぜん」と読まれていた地、雲仙は、
標高700メートルに位置し、古くから避暑地として親しまれてきた。
その湯は、目の前に広がる雲仙地獄から引かれてくるー
乳白色に濁る強い酸性の泉質と、立ちのぼる湯けむりが、この土地の記憶を語る。
内湯にはステンドグラスが施され、朝の光が差し込むと色とりどりの輝きが湯面に映る。
硫黄の香りに包まれながら、どこか異国の空気を感じる湯浴み。

DINNER - a culinary journey through Nagasaki
Beginning with an appetiser inspired by the steamy mystery of Jigoku (hell), followed by a horaku-mori platter that nods to Shippoku—the multicultural cuisine of the region. The star of the evening: ago-dashi shabu-shabu—thinly sliced meat swirled in a deeply flavourful flying fish broth, followed by udon noodles that soak in the essence.

As night falls, step into the nostalgic elegance of the WAKARAN Lounge, a retro-inspired space that glows with soft light and history. Sip on original Stained Glass Cocktails, dazzling in colour and inspired by the luminous windows of the historical Oura Cathedral in Nagasaki city—crafted with fragments of actual stained glass used in the cathedral’s restoration.

Said to have been built in 701, this temple sits on a small hill just across the road from the hotel. In the main hall, the Buddha gazes quietly over the city, as if watching over it with timeless grace.

KAI UNZEN & SUSTAINABILITY
Geothermal energy is being used for hot water, heating hot springs, and air conditioning in Unzen. In particular, at Kaiun-mae, the geothermal heat from beneath Unzen Hell is being effectively utilized, heat that was previously unused. After being used for air conditioning and hot water, the remaining heat is recycled through a heat pump, generating energy without relying on fossil fuels. This initiative aims to achieve zero CO₂ emissions and a self-sufficiency rate of over 50% in natural energy.
地熱を活用し、界 雲仙では給湯や温泉の加温、空調に利用している。
雲仙地獄の地熱を活かし、これまで未活用だった熱を有効利用。
空調や給湯に使った後の熱もヒートポンプで再利用し、化石燃料を使わずにエネルギーを生み出している。
この取り組みにより、界 雲仙ではCO₂排出ゼロで自然エネルギー自給率50％以上を目指している。
